How Hypnotherapy Can Help With Insomnia

Everyone struggles to sleep occasionally but insomnia becomes a problem when it continues night after night for weeks, months or even years. When we start each morning feeling groggy and lethargic. Sometimes the cause of insomnia can be rectified easily, for example by avoiding alcohol or caffeine or reducing the temperature of the room in which you’re sleeping. For other people, further intervention is required and although sleeping tablets can help in the short term, over time these can become less effective. If you’re struggling with insomnia and would like a drug-free solution, then Solution Focused Hypnotherapy with me,  at either my Stafford clinic or online, may be the answer.

More About Insomnia

Unfortunately, for approximately 1 in 3 people in the UK, it is a regular problem with the elderly being particularly prone to insomnia.

Insomnia is said to occur when you regularly experience one or more of the following:

  • Struggle to get to sleep at night
  • Wake regularly during the night and struggle to get back to sleep.
  • Wake up too early in the morning and be unable to get back to sleep.
  • Struggle to nap during the day, regardless of how tired you feel.
  • Feel lethargic and tired in the mornings.
  • Struggle to concentrate during the day and feel irritable and sluggish.

The World Health Organisation states that we all need around 8 hours of sleep a night to function at our best and if you’re regularly getting less than this, then as an adult it will impact on your life. Lack of proper sleep can create problems with relationships, limit your activity during the day and negatively affect our mood. It is worth noting, however, that children and teenagers tend to need more sleep than this.

Insomnia can be caused by a number of issues but high levels of stress and anxiety often play a significant role. This is where hypnotherapy can be very effective in the battle with insomnia.  I offer an initial consultation during which you will receive a simple and clear explanation of the role the brain plays in sleep disturbance. You will receive a free relaxation MP3  that uses a blend of visualisations, relaxation and hypnotic suggestion to help to get the process started. This is usually followed by a small number of hypnotherapy sessions to enable the brain to recognise when it is time to sleep and to encourage a good night’s sleep.
